The training will cover all aspects of the SENCO role and allow for opportunities for networking with other SENCOs. It is aimed at Early SENCOs and/or managers who are involved the SEND. The overview of the 3 days is: Day 1 Overview Date: Thursday 19 November 2026 Time: 9am to 3.45pm Venue Kedleston Road Training Centre Foundations and principles of SEND in Early years settings SENCO role - qualifications - legislation - Code of Practice - understanding SEND - responsibilities Identification of send Starting points - observations - emerging concerns - parent conversations - identifying SEND - SEND list/register - SEND folders Day 2 Overview Date: January (exact date to be confirmed) Time: 9am to 3.45pm Venue Kedleston Road Training Centre Understanding the graduated approach Assessment - sensory assessment - one-page profile - ISP - reviewing - staff support - training - referrals - SALT/STePS - external agencies - Early Years Inclusion Funding - costed provision mapping DAY 3 Overview Date: March (exact date to be confirmed) Time: 9am to 3.45pm Venue Kedleston Road Training Centre Children with more complex needs EHCNA decision - evidence - request - what if it's declined? - EHCP - annual reviews - independence - transitions between rooms - transition to school
